Breathwork Beneath the Stars

This summer, I stood in front of more than a hundred people gathered at a festival. Music floated across the field, the night sky stretched overhead, and as the session began, something extraordinary happened: a group of strangers surrendered to the breath together.

Breathwork has always been profound in intimate settings - one-to-one, or in small groups. The safety of a contained circle can unlock release, healing and transformation. But to hold space for an entire field breathing in unison was unlike anything I had ever witnessed.

There was a rhythm to it. Waves of release moving through the group. The sound of sighs, sobs and laughter weaving together. People who had never spoken to each other dropping into a state of shared humanity, connected not by story or background, but by breath.

For some, it was their first time. You could see the astonishment in their eyes as they surfaced from the practice. For others, it was a continuation of their journey, another layer peeled back. For me, it was confirmation that this work is not bound by walls.

I often hear people separate the “professional” spaces from the “personal” or “spiritual” ones. But what I saw that night is that breath is universal. Whether in a festival field or a corporate boardroom, people crave the same thing: the quiet relief of belonging to themselves, before they belong anywhere else.

The stars bore witness. And in their vastness, I was reminded that this work,  though it feels deeply personal, is also collective.
